CANTON — Police have arrested a low life on animal cruelty charge accusing her of trying to drown a dog.
Ashley N. Mace, 29, who has a Wooster address, is charged with prohibitions concerning companion animals, a felony. She was being held in the Stark County Jail on $2,500 bond.
Police were called just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday to a residence in the 300 block of Ninth Street NE because of a dispute among people staying there. Police were told a dog was at the residence, but they couldn’t locate the animal.
According to a police report, Mace was found in a bathroom gathering together some of her personal items. As officers talked with her, they noticed the bathroom floor was covered with water as if it had been flooded.
Officers heard what sounded like moaning, then saw a pile of towels and a shower curtain in the corner that seemed to move. Officers checked and found a young pit bull wrapped in the towels. The dog was soaked in soap and water and struggling to breathe, police reported.
The dog was taken to a veterinarian by others who live at the residence, according to the police report. The condition of the animal wasn’t available.
